Jorge Kol de Carvalho was born on April 26, 1948, in Terra-Chã, on Terceira Island in the Azores. He completed his secondary education at the Colégio Militar between 1958 and 1965. In 1971, he graduated with a degree in Architecture from the School of Fine Arts of Lisbon (ESBAL), marking the beginning of a long and dedicated professional journey in architecture.
From 1971 to 1994, he worked with various architectural firms, gaining extensive experience across different projects. In 1994, within the framework of the company Consulmar, he took on the role of leading the Azores office and relocated to Ponta Delgada, on São Miguel Island. There, he became closely connected to the city and made a lasting contribution to its architectural landscape.
Between 2005 and 2013, he served as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Architecture Program at the University of the Azores, helping to shape the education of a new generation of architects.
Since retiring in 2013, Jorge Kol de Carvalho has embraced new challenges, including two independent candidacies for the Municipal Council of Ponta Delgada, supported by the Left Bloc. Retirement has also allowed him more time to write and continue “architecting” in diverse ways.
