Vítor Figueiredo (1929–2004) was a distinguished Portuguese architect renowned for his significant contributions to social housing and educational architecture. Born in Figueira da Foz, he graduated in Architecture from the Escola de Belas Artes do Porto in 1959.
Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Figueiredo focused on social housing projects in areas such as Olivais Sul, Chelas, Alto dos Moinhos, Benavente, Setúbal, and Santo Estêvão. His work is characterized by a deep ethical, social, and cultural engagement, evident in projects like the “Cinco Dedos” housing complex in Chelas (1972–1975).
In the realm of educational architecture, Figueiredo designed notable buildings including the Escola Superior de Artes e Design in Caldas da Rainha (1990–1996), for which he received the prestigious Prémio Secil in 1998. His other significant works encompass the Polo da Mitra at the University of Évora (1992–1995) and the Pedagogical, Scientific, and Technological Complex at the University of Aveiro (1997–2000).
Beyond his architectural practice, Figueiredo was an influential educator, teaching at both the University of Coimbra and the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, shaping successive generations of architects.
